CB connector (CBC) started in October 2005 under the name "Joomla-phpBB standalone bridge". With help of Alycad and Shimon who created the mambo-phpBB bridge code and made it better, Martijn de Jong (martijn189) made a code addition that made Joomla and phpBB work even closer together. This bridge had only 4 functions, and it was needed to hack into the joomla core to get it to work. After Martijn de Jong became a beta-tester for the Joomla component Community Builder, he created a plugin based on the original "Joomla-phpBB standalone bridge" codes, and it became "phpBB bridge v0.5 for Community builder RC2" . Development of the software slowed down due to lack of programming knowledge of the main developer and because of his time consuming website stargate-sg1.nl, a Dutch community website for fans of the television series Stargate. It was then that Greg Effland (geeffland), also a Community Builder tester, came forward and brought his ideas to the project. He soon became a developer, and work began on the phpBB connector project over at developer.joomla.org, and became known to a lot of users around the world. In February 2006 the team decided to bring the project to a new level, with a complete rewrite of the plugin itself, use of the xajax programming language and a brand new set of features to create the ultimate software to connect a joomla website with a phpBB forum.
Around March 2006 it was decided by Greg Effland and Martijn de Jong that the project needed to be more modular, because the team not only wanted to create a plugin for use with phpBB but to make it possible to let the plugin handle other forum systems as well. A new name, website and logo where created... CB connector was born... CB connector's first released version will be v2.0.0. It will be the first version which exposes its built-in plugin architecture. Obviously the first plugin for CB Connector is the one which allows phpBB to work with CBC.
